The Victoria Society for Humanistic Judaism (VSHJ) will be celebrating its 20th anniversary on Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th, 2013 at the Jewish Community Centre of Victoria.
The anniversary program will start with a Saturday evening Havdalah ceremony, with music by our resident musicians Kouskous (Gary Cohen and Amber Woods), followed by a celebration dinner, with special guest Rifke Feinstein, Executive Director of the Congress of Secular Jewish Organisations (CSJO), speaking on the topic “Future of the CSJO and Secular Humanistic Judaism”.
On Sunday, a bagel, lox and cream cheese brunch is planned followed by a keynote presentation “Why Bother (Being Jewish)” by special guest Rabbi Judith Seid, leader of the Tri-Valley Cultural Jews in East Bay, California, CSJO executive board member, and author of the book “God-Optional Judaism: Alternatives for Cultural Jews Who Love Their History, Heritage, and Community”.
We will be launching our anniversary webpage on our website in February with VSHJ memorabilia and information about our anniversary weekend program. Stay tuned!
