VSHJ Member Murray Enkin Receives Order of Canada

VSHJ member Dr. Murray Enkin, a Professor Emeritus at McMaster University’s School of Medicine, was at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on May 3rd, where he was made a Member of the Order of Canada for “his contributions to maternal care and the development of midwifery as a recognized profession in Canada.”

The Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours, was established in 1967, during Canada’s centennial year, to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation.

Below is a picture of Murray receiving the Order of Canada from Governor General David Johnston. Congratulations Murray!!

Memorable VSHJ 20th Anniversary Celebration

Members and guests celebrated VSHJ’s 20th anniversary on the May 4th and 5th weekend. Special thanks to Rifke Feinstein, CSJO Executive Director, and to Rabbi Judith Seid, Leader of the Tri-Valley Cultural Jews and her husband David, for travelling all the way to Victoria, British Columbia to help us celebrate. Rifke’s talk “CSJO and the Future of Secular Humanistic Judaism” was very encouraging and Judith’s talk “Why Bother (Being Jewish)” was very thought provoking. It was a successful celebration weekend with good food, drink, music, singing, and lots of shmoozing and reminiscing. We look forward to many more years of celebrating secular humanistic Judaism on Southern Vancouver Island.
Photos from the 20th anniversary weekend can be viewed on our website by dragging your mouse to the VSHJ 20th Anniversary tab, then to the Anniversary Celebration tab and then click on Anniversary Pictures.
