Sharon Kobrinsky is the New Jewish Chaplain at UVic

The Jewish Federation of Victoria and Vancouver Island (JFVVI) announced today the appointment of VSHJ Ceremonial Leader Sharon Kobrinsky as the new Jewish Chaplain at the University of Victoria. Congratulations Sharon!!

The Jewish Federation of Victoria and Vancouver Island (JFVVI) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Jewish Chaplain at the University of Victoria:  Sharon Kobrinsky (RSW).

Sharon is known within the community for her leadership with the Victoria Society for Humanistic Judaism and brings a background of Social Work and Jewish learning to her role at UVic’s Multifaith Services Centre next to the UVic bookstore and bus exchange.

The Jewish Chaplaincy position at the University of Victoria is funded by a community agency grant from the Jewish Federation of Victoria and Vancouver Island.

VSHJ Presents “Jewish Music Night” on Sunday, February 16th

Classic Jewish Love Songs from Fiddler on the Roof, Irving Berlin, Carol King, Leonard Cohen, and other Jewish Songwriters.
Sing-A-Long/Concert with World Folk Music duo Kouskous (Gary Cohen & Amber Woods) and the versatile musical duo Honey (Nehamashira & Greg Davidson).
Enjoy exquisite pastries baked by an Empress Hotel Chef.
Everyone is welcome. There is a suggested donation of $10 for non-members.

VSHJ Tu B’Shevat Celebration on Sunday, January 19th

Please join us as we celebrate Tu B’Shevat, also known as the “New Year for Trees” and now considered the ‘Jewish Arbor Day” or the “Jewish Earth Day”.
We will have a sedar where we eat different types of fruits; with shells, with pits, edible inside and out, and we drink white and red fruit juices to reflect on our connection with the trees and the earth throughout the four seasons of the year.
After the seder, Mona Acker and Freda Knott will make a presentation on how to have an Environmentally Friendly Green Simcha.
Refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome. The event will start promptly at 2:00 pm.
